Manifesto
Better data for artists.
Better outcomes for everyone.
Artists and their partners should be able to work together with useful data, clear permissions, and a choice of providers
01 - The Problem
Every stream, ticket scan, follow, and share creates fan data. The artist rarely gets the full record.
Separate logins, formats, and export policies make collaboration harder for artists, managers, labels, and platforms alike. Shared standards can help permitted data work across those systems.
Artists should have meaningful access and a say in how permitted data is used, with respect for fan rights and the responsibilities of every source.
02 - What We Believe
Fan data records the relationship between an artist and the people who support their work. It should support the artist and the partners they choose.
Streaming activity, ticketing, and commerce records can be useful together even when they cannot be linked to the same person. Sources can retain their own records while sharing permitted copies under clear terms.
Identity is the foundation of trust
An artist identity is distinct from the people or organizations authorized to act for it. The standard should make those relationships and permissions clear.
Interoperability is not optional
Artists should be able to move data between the tools they use. We believe shared formats and access rules should make that possible.
Portability is power
Artists and authorized teams should be able to change compatible hosts without starting again. Portability must preserve the permissions and context attached to the data.
Infrastructure should be neutral
The standard should serve artists and the companies they work with. Its rules should not favor one streaming, ticketing, or commerce platform.
03 - The Status Quo
Artist data sits behind separate logins, formats, and access rules. We are building a standard to help artists move it between tools.
Each platform built its own data model and access rules. Artists and their partners now have to interpret and connect records across separate systems.
Artists should be able to change tools without losing the data they are entitled to keep.
04 - Our Promise
To every artist
Your fans found you You should have meaningful access to permitted data and a choice of providers. That does not require a source platform to surrender its own records.
To every platform
Help shape the protocol Help define compatible integrations, hosting services, and agreement templates that make permitted artist data easier to use.
To the industry
Build the infrastructure together Help define the data formats, permissions, and connections the standard needs.
05 - The Call to Action
We are building a shared standard for artist data.
A.D.A.P.T. is a nonprofit organization for the music industry. We want artists to keep and use their data, and platforms to spend less time negotiating one-off connections. Artists, managers, engineers, and companies can help shape that work.
The data belongs to the artist. Help us decide how the standard should put that belief into practice.
